I put 10 on my T420 (4236MBU, which has Intel HD3000 video) about a month ago, and the upgrade was painless. It seems to go smoothly more often with the Intel GMA series, and often not work at all with nvidia series due to driver issues.Chipset drivers? They appear to be universal, so I assume Windows 10 has them built-in or?Is there anything else to watch out for? About them is way too spread out all over the Lenovo docs, I was wondering if anyone could point out what the gotchas are for upgrading those series to Win 10.I see that officially, Lenovo only supports some 420s and 430s and newer models for the upgrade.Unofficially, from Googling, it seems that one of the biggest gotchas is which graphics chip the machine has. When reinstalling Windows, try the Lenovo disc images, as longer battery times have been reported, probably due to custom drivers.Hi everyone:I've been doing some reading on what's involved with 'upgrading' to Windows 10 on some Thinkpad T410 and T420 series for a small client. A can of compressed air may be useful too, and a bottle of isopropyl alcohol and cotton buds are good for cleaning, but not on the screen. The only tools you need for servicing a ThinkPad are a set of small screwdrivers and a nylon spudger (for taking the screen and keyboard bezels off), and possibly a pair of tweezers. Corporate bulk purchasers don't usually go for it.
Not only will it have better brightness, colour, contrast and viewing angles - you will most probably more than make up the investment when selling it. When buying a new ThinkPad, consider taking the IPS screen option if possible, as it doesn't cost much. When buying a used ThinkPad, remember to check that the BIOS is not locked with a supervisor's password and that Computrace is not enabled and activated. For IBM/Lenovo ThinkPad laptop enthusiasts.
